Mega Ministries without a Mega Church
The Rose of Sharon COGIC has continuously served the metro Detroit community with numerous programs that churches double their size have not provided. Some programs include:
- Annual Back to School Rallies that have served over 2000 neighborhood children and their families providing free school supplies over the past 3 years.
- Summer Youth Academy, a 6-8 week summer camp for children from 5-17 years old that has serviced over 150 children over the past three years.
- Annual Thanksgiving and Christmas Drives to benefit needy families.
- Transition Housing Ministry to provide temporary housing to single women and children.
- JWATT foundation that has given over $30,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors since 2005.
- Shelter outreach to recovering addicts and their families providing clothing, blankets, mentoring, food and religious services.
- Annual Blood and Bone Marrow Drives.
- "Gas and Groceries" program that provides members who need help with 2 basic things: gas money for their car and money for the purchase of groceries during the tough economic times.
- Adopt a School- Nolan Middle School in Detroit, providing mentorship, tutoring and supplies to local middle school children.
- Black College Tours for youth ages 14-18 that encourage the church's youth to attend college.
- Built Mini recording studio for the youth to provide training in the areas of audio visual operations.
- Built Computer lab with 22 existing computers for tutoring the youth and established laptop program for all 4th graders to monitor academic progress of students up into high school.
